Neshkinukat (pronounced "neesh-kih-nooh-kut") is a Luiseno word which means "one who has relatives."

What is Neshkinukat, California Native Artists Network?
Neshkinukat, California Native Artists Network, is an informal network of American Indian, Alaska Native, and other Indigenous artists who live in California.

This statewide network strives to create a unified voice within the California Native arts community. Neshkinukat is the only statewide network of Native artists from multiple disciplines. Neshkinukat is funded by the California Arts Council.

What are the current activities of Neshkinukat?
Hold two annual meetings, one each in Northern and Southern California.
Build a grassroots membership.
Develop an artist directory for print and web.

Who can join Neshkinukat?
The network is open to Native artists of all traditional and contemporary art forms including painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, silversmiths, writers, bead workers, digital storytellers, photographers, potters, weavers, dancers, musicians, drum makers, singers, composers, poets, and more. How was this directory compiled?
For the first issue of the Neshkinukat Native Artists Directory, artists were invited to submit photographs, samples, and a statement describing their work. These pages include submissions directly from the artists.
